No niche. Just curiosity.

Hi. I’m Erik.

I’m a lot of things, and I’ve stopped apologizing for it.

Software engineer. Author. Pilot. Certified sommelier. Photographer. Dad of two boys who have excellent taste in chaos. I live outside Milwaukee with my wife Laura, our two sons, and a beautifully loving goldendoodle.

My debut novel, The Portrait of Eloise Leclair, is a dual-timeline historical mystery set in Nazi-occupied France and modern-day Paris. It won a Wisconsin Library Association Literary Award nomination. The sequel is in progress and I’ll be writing about it here as it happens.

When I’m not writing fiction, I’m writing here. About whatever I can’t stop thinking about. Traffic lights. FICO scores. Why wine screw caps are actually fine. How I built a home automation system for my robot lawnmower. What Prague looks like from 18x zoom on an iPhone at golden hour. The aerodynamics of turbulence, explained to someone gripping the armrest.

I also build things. Substack posts sometimes turn into apps, skills, or tools. I share those here too.

This is not a niche publication. It is a curious one. If you’re the kind of person who reads about something just because it’s interesting, you’re going to be fine here.

Subscribe for free. I’ll show up when I have something worth your time.
